Must/Should Haves!
Getting started in the gym is not difficult at all, but to get comfortable and ensure that you're not wasting any time nor effort, there are a few key things you should bring with you every time you visit your gym. Here's a few Examples:
- Gym Towel: Bringing a gym towel is generally a good idea, as it allows you to not only wipe off your face and forehead as sweat accumulates, but also wipe things down if necessary. (Disclaimer: Don't wipe your sweat and equipment at the same time)
- Creatine:Creatine is the most studied supplement within the health and fitness industry, and its benefits are wide-ranging and effective. From brain health and wellbeing, to promoting hydration within cells and muscle recovery, Creatine has no drawbacks, and taking 5 grams per day, before or after your workout, will no doubt help in your journey.
- Lifting Belt (and other support equipment): While definitely not necessary for gym beginners, lifting belts, wrist wraps, and sleeves-elbow and knee-can be very helpful as you go from beginner, to intermediate, to advanced. In short, it allows you to more comfortably handle higher weights, supporting your increased strength gains with stability.
- Water Bottle: For many, the concept of bringing a water bottle to the gym is a no brainer. But, I must stress how important it really is. Staying hydrated and resupplying your body with oxygen is crucial towards making gains in the gym.
PS: Always bring your own music!
Extra Stuff!
When going to the gym, there are a few extra things that are not totally necessary, but help a lot with comfort and perfomance.
- Pre-Workout:A great tool to have for energy, sustained hydration and energy, and many more benefits for when you're mid workout.
- Gym Clothes: Having dedicated gym clothes isn't a bad idea, however, it is not totally necessary. A t-shirt and shorts, or shorts and hoodie, and so on, are perfectly acceptable for the gym. Don't feel like you need to buy yoga pants or compression shirts. You can if you want though!
